Dominic Owen, aka “The Love Theme”, is a record producer, DJ, and engineer whose work spans Hip-Hop, EDM, film, soundtracks, and documentaries. Beginning as DJ Quick in the UK underground, he founded Sing-A-Song Records and released early landmark projects including Sunshine Power, It’s Too Late (featuring MSD), and the Three Sons 16 Days EP. He is best known for producing “Things Done Changed” on The Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic album Ready to Die, which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, is preserved in the Library of Congress, and ranked #1 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums of All Time. He also wrote “Drugs” for Lil Kim’s 5 million-selling album “Hardcore.” In the 1990s, he worked in Brooklyn with Hit Man Howie Tee, producing songs for Little Shawn, Chubb Rock, and Special Ed, and contributed to the Space Jam soundtrack, producing “Buggin’” featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Jay-Z.
A sought-after producer and engineer, he’s collaborated with top artists including Julian Marley, Seal, Rakim, Anthony Hamilton, Angie Stone, The Climax Blues Band, Damage, Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets) and many more. His record label and publishing company, Smokersblend, is home to his own releases as “The Love Theme,” including Mellowed, Endless Affections, Bad Bikini, Slim Pizza, Three Sons, and Air Age. This catalogue also features collaborations with Japanese rapper Lion Arkroyal and his acclaimed ambient album Meditation Music – Relax And Meditate, which has been streamed over 250 million times and reached Number 1 on Apple Music’s Electronic chart.
